Roy and Daisy Cox founded Cox Farm 86 years ago. In the fall, when thousands of school kids come out to the farm, we make sure it is an educational experience and supports the classroom curriculum. Students learn about how pumpkins, corn, and other vegetables grow and are harvested. They also wander through the corn maze until they come to the pumpkin patch where they choose just the right pumpkin (because you know there is a science to it), feed the animals, play, and eat lunch. The corn maze was added in 2006 it has really been a great success - not only for people visiting the maze for entertainment, but also for many local senior citizens who come out and do their daily walking to get their exercise.
Through the years, the farm has gone through many changes from the little roadside stand under the tree, to building a store, to rebuilding after the 1991 tornado, which flattened everything on the property, to always looking for ways to keep the farm experience for the next generation. Daisy Cox purchased the property that is known today as Cox Farm in 1926. From 1926-1974 they planted crops and sold them at their roadside stand on the property. In 1975, their daughter Helen and her husband Charlie took over the farm. They built a store that looked like a barn and started agro-tourism; customers could shop in the store, or go out and pick peaches, apples and cherries from fruit trees as well as pick strawberries, tomatoes, green beans and let’s not forget the itchy okra along with lots of other vegetables. In the fall, visitors would come down to the farm for a fall experience which included going for a hayrack ride to the pumpkin patch, playing in the corn patch, feeding the animals and sometimes having a picnic or birthday party. In 1991, Cox Farm was hit by a tornado and everything on the farm was leveled. The Cox Family rebuilt the store and continued working together to make Cox Farm better than ever!
Ron and Vickie started running the farm in 2007. Everyone at Cox Farm works hard to make sure that the fresh fruits and vegetables are of the highest quality before putting them on the shelf to be sold. We also have a line of Cox Farm products that include everything from beets to salad dressings, to pickled watermelon rinds.
In the spring we host Spring Tours where kids come down to the farm to learn all about planting, growing and harvesting vegetables.
During the hot summer months, fruits and vegetables are in their prime and our shelves are overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables.
